Party with Buick Open pros to raise funds for newborns

(GENESEE COUNTY, MI) Genesys Health Foundation, thanks to the generous support of local community members and businesses, will present "Party with the Pros," Friday, June 27, from
6 p.m. to 11 p.m., at the homes of local residents in Grand Blanc.

Lou and Melanie Dortch, Rich and Debbie Nemesi, and Jeff and Joan Powell, will open their homes (overlooking the 16th hole of the Buick Open) as hosts of this event, designated to raise funds to expand the Genesys Special Care Nursery to a Level II B in order to help reduce the number of high-risk pregnancies in Genesee County.

Infant and mortality rates in Genesee County continue to remain among the highest in the nation, and Genesys hopes to change that through an $1.8 million capital campaign, reports Nick Evans, vice president of the Genesys Health Foundation. With funds from the campaign, Genesys will construct and equip a comprehensive Special Care Level II B Nursery and upgrade its Family Birthing Center.

Upgrading its nursery from a Level II A to a Level II B means Genesys will have the capability to care for higher risk babies - those born at more than 32 weeks gestation and weighing more than 1500 grams, those needing short-term mechanical ventilation, and those needing continuous positive airway pressure. With funds from the campaign, Genesys also will give a facelift to its Family Birthing Center accommodations. This will include two family suites with a bedroom, living room, and a wireless work desk area - all resembling a hotel suite; and new color schemes, flooring and ceilings throughout the center.

"Thanks to the support and generosity of the Dortch, Nemesi and Powell families, this event will help raise awareness in the community of the need to improve care for new mothers and babies," Evans adds.

Party with the Pros was organized by the party hosts in hopes of generating several thousand dollars toward the capital campaign.

According to party host Rich Nemesi, "Genesys is an important part of our community. It has great people doing great things for others. I believe it is in the best interest of this region to continue helping Genesys to maintain the best level of care and service, particularly for our community's women and children. Supporting this capital campaign will make that possible."

The party - a Buick Open sanctioned event - takes place during the Buick Open and by the 16th hole of Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club, the home of the Buick Open. Golf pros playing at the
Buick Open will join the party to support the Genesys fundraiser.

Cost to attend Party with the Pros is $100 a person. This price includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, compliments of Luca's Chophouse in Grand Blanc; refreshments; and entertainment by Mark Randisi, internationally known for his Frank Sinatra sound and style.

Many organizations have stepped forward to help support the event through sponsorships. These include: Al Serra Auto Plaza, Allied Waste Services, Ambassador Magazine, Genesys Conference and Banquet Center, Grande Med Spa, Grey Goose, John P. O'Sullivan, Luca's Chophouse, Redwood Creek Wines, Rottermond Jewelers, Royal Gardens Flowers, Sohn Linen Service, Superior Pontiac-Cadillac, SupplyPro, The Coca-Cola Company, The Teich Group and Ziggy's Ice Cream.

To purchase tickets for this event, call the Genesys Health Foundation at 606-6387 or visit this website: http://www.genesys.org/partywiththepros.

This year, the Buick Open will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Tournament play takes place June 23 through June 29.

Improving safety for mothers and babies comes first at Genesys. Achieving zero preventable birth traumas and maintaining that goal through evidence-based obstetrical practices remains the Family Birthing Center staff's focus.
