Genesys launches program to help athletes go mental

(GRAND BLANC, MI) Genesys Athletic Club (GAC) will take performance for local athletes to new levels by combining physical training with sports psychology to form Synergy – Mind and Movement Training System, which begins Tuesday, June 19.
Led by local and pro football star Sean Poole, Synergy will "help athletes become stronger, faster, more agile and smarter than ever," announces Jen Colombo, fitness director at GAC. "In an increasingly competitive environment, coaches and athletes are always looking for any advantage, and Synergy will provide the tools to make that happen."

Through Synergy, athletes (12 years of age and older) will:

learn how to use mental skills and sport-specific training exercises to enhance their overall athletic performance

learn how to become more assertive in decision-making

build confidence and form a clear vision while mastering the footwork to specific sports movements

The muscle behind Synergy is Flint native Sean Poole, CPT, who played four seasons as offensive lineman for Michigan State, where he was named first-team All-Big Ten in 2004. Poole also was named first-team all-state while at Flint Central High School and played professional football for the Chicago Bears and more recently with the CFL's Toronto Argonauts. In addition to serving on the GAC personal training staff, Poole has taught speed and agility camps throughout the Midwest and Canada.

Poole is joined by Todd Nadeau, a Flint area sports psychologist who has spent the past 12 years working with professional, college and high school athletes to understand the mental skills that enhance performance and drive the mind to excel in their sport.

“Sean and Todd truly round out our growing team dedicated to helping local athletes achieve their best possible performance,” says Colombo, whose club’s athletic offerings include SPEED (an acronym for sports performance, education and early development for athletes ages 8 to 14) and a plyometrics training area to help athletes improve their power and performance in their individual sport.

Synergy classes will run June 19 through July 19 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. (There will be no classes during the week of July 4th). Class sizes are limited and each athlete will be required to attend an orientation on Friday, June 15 from noon to 5 p.m. Cost of Synergy is $199 for Genesys Athletic Club members and $240 for non-members.Please contact Colombo at 810-606-7526 or jcolombo@genesys.org, or Poole at 810-606-5051 ext. 34391 about Synergy requirements.
