Gov. Granholm proclaims May as Leave a Legacy Month

(Genesee County, MI) Recognizing the impact on organizations who are recipients of planned giving donations, Gov. Jennifer Granholm, through a proclamation, has declared May “Leave a Legacy Month.” During this month, a nationwide public awareness campaign is underway to inspire people to make a charitable bequest to organizations they value. Leave a Legacy campaign activities, conducted by volunteers who are committed to promoting the importance of charitable bequests, are sponsored locally by the Planned Giving Roundtable of Southeast Michigan.
All types of nonprofit and professional groups, including social service and arts organizations, churches, hospitals, educational institutions, law and accounting firms and financial planning practices, participate in Leave a Legacy. These partners help promote the message that people from all walks of life can “Make a Difference in the Lives that Follow” through a charitable bequest. Leave a Legacy does not solicit gifts for any particular organization.

To learn more about Leave a Legacy, and how planned giving donations can benefit you and your loved ones, the public is invited to attend an informational seminar on Thursday, May 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Fairlane Club in Dearborn.

The day includes these presentations:
How to start a planned giving program
Bequests and gift annuities: the foundation of a planned giving program
Putting it all together
How to align investments, distributions and goals within a private foundation
Developing sound investment and asset allocation policies for foundations and charities
Achieving financial stability: is it possible for nonprofit organizations?
How to assist a donor in determining giving capacity
How boom generation women will re-write the rules of philanthropy

Cost to the public for this full day of information, including lunch, is $85. Discounts are available for Leave a Legacy partners and other organizations. To make a reservation, call 1-888-826-7900, or visit the Leave a Legacy website at: www.leavealegacysoutheastmichigan.org. The website provides details on each presentation and speakers.

In addition to this one day educational seminar, Leave a Legacy offers a speakers bureau comprised of estate planning attorneys, CPAs, financial planners and planned giving experts. These individuals are available to speak free of charge. Call 1-888-826-7900 for more information.
