National palliative care expert joins local religious leaders to lecture at Genesys
(GENESEE COUNTY, MI) Genesys will welcome a national expert in palliative care to speak at: "Ethics and Palliative Care," a day-long seminar sponsored by Genesys Medical Education on Wednesday, June 8.
Steven Pantilat, MD, FAAHPM, director of Palliative Care Leadership Center for the University of California in San Francisco, serves as the keynote speaker. He will discuss: "The Journey - The Role of Palliative Care; Why, When and Who."
Those attending the seminar will learn about pain and symptom management in palliative care, triggers that identify patient populations appropriate for palliative care, cultural barriers in end of life decisions, ethics and moral issues, emotional challenges regarding end of life decisions, and advance directives with patients at multiple points in the chronic illness spectrum.
The educational event is open to anyone working in the field of palliative care; as well as physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, nursing home administrators, hospice caregivers, and other interested allied health professionals.

The seminar runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and takes place at Genesys Conference and Banquet Center on the Genesys Regional Medical Center - Health Park campus in Grand Blanc Township.
Cost is $75 for active practice physicians; $50 for retired physicians, nurses, nursing home administrators and all other allied health professionals.
