Genesys conducts free seminar on stroke

(GRAND BLANC, MI) According to the American Stroke Association, about 700,000 Americans each year suffer a new or recurrent stroke. Stroke takes the life of more than 150,000 people a year, which is about one in 16 deaths. It's the third cause of death behind heart and cancer.
On Thursday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m., a seminar will take place discussing stroke, the risk factors and treatment. Dara Headrick, DO, medical director of inpatient rehabilitation at Genesys, will be speaking. The talk will be held at Genesys Regional Medical Center auditorium.

"Everyone should learn to recognize the signs of stroke and act quickly," says Dr. Headrick. "Time lost is brain lost. If you experience sudden numbness, confusion, trouble seeing or a severe headache with no known cause, you should call 911 or see a medical professional immediately."

Genesys Rehabilitation Center was awarded the highest level of accreditation by The Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for inpatient medical rehabilitation and stroke speciality services. Genesys is one of only three centers in the entire state of Michigan to receive this accreditation for stroke care.

Genesys Regional Medical Center is located on Holly Road, just west of I-75 in Grand Blanc (exit 108). For more information or to reserve your seat, call Genesys AdvantAge at (810) 606-6265.
