Genesys adds surgical oncologist to medical team

(GENESEE COUNTY, MI) Kenneth Steibel, MD, president of the Genesys Regional Medical Center medical staff, announces the appointment of Douglas Iddings, DO, surgical oncologist, to the Genesys medical team.
Dr. Iddings completed his residency in general surgery at Genesys, and trained at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York before earning a fellowship in surgical oncology from the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California.

He is board certified in general surgery.

His practice of surgical oncology will include managing malignant diseases of the gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and endocrine systems; treating soft tissue tumors and cancers of the pancreas, head and neck; and treating melanoma as well as breast and gynecological malignancies.

His skills also include radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of tumors using minimally invasive techniques (ultrasound-guided laparoscopic surgery) to avoid surgery in selected patients.

This specialized training has prepared Dr. Iddings to work closely with a multidisciplinary oncology team who can provide hope to cancer patients by offering state-of-the-art care as well as options for patients to participate in local and national cancer trials.

Dr. Iddings has conducted extensive research in colorectal cancer, melanomas, lymphatic mapping and sentinel node surgical applications, gallbladder cancer and breast cancer. He has presented his findings at national and international medical conferences, and recently was awarded the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Scientific Merit Award for research presented at the largest oncology conference in the world. The ASCO calls Dr. Iddings a "skilled, professional and innovative surgeon/scientist."

Dr. Iddings is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the American Society of Clinical Oncologists.

He joins Advanced General & Oncological Surgery Associates, located at 3500 Calkins Road, Suite A, in Flint. To reach Dr. Iddings, call 810-230-9600.
