Genesys Learning Institute presents free mini-medical school

(GENESEE COUNTY, MI) Genesys Learning Institute (GLI) once again will offer free classes for the public to learn more about their health and how to lead a healthier lifestyle. These classes take place every Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Genesys Conference and Banquet Center beginning Feb. 23 and continuing through March 23.
Here is the schedule of classes. You can pick and choose which ones you would like to attend.

Feb. 23
With every breath you take: pulmonary conditions including asthma, emphysema, COPD and more
Instructor: Fahim Khorfan, MD, pulmonologist at Genesys

Lumps and bumps on your skin: skin lesions such as acne, moles and warts; treatments and prevention
Instructor: Kimball Silverton, DO, dermatologist at Genesys

March 2
Aging - mental and physical health: dementia, alzheimer's disease and other conditions that come with an aging population
Instructor: Matthew Weiss, DO, geriatrician at Genesys

Blood tests: what do they mean
Instructor: Brenda Fortunate, DO, family practitioner at Genesys

March 9
Clinical trials and medicine: the importance of research and clinical trials
Instructor: Kimberly Barber, PhD, director of the Genesys Office of Research

The GI system: diseases that affect the gastrointestinal system and preventive procedures
Instructor: Justin Miller, DO, gastroenterologist

March 16
Joint pain and when to seek treatment
Instructor: Edward Lis, DO, orthopedic surgeon

A healthy mouth, a healthy you
Instructor: Jay Werschky, DDS, Genesee County dentist

March 23
Broken bones and their treatments
Instructor: James Heming, DO, orthopedic surgeon

Differences between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
Instructor: Hal Martens, DO, rheumatologist

"Genesys chose to offer mini-medical school classes to support the public in their pursuit of health and wellbeing by helping our community become more educated consumers when it comes to their health," reports Karen Burdick, director of the Genesys Learning Institute. "And they will learn from the experts; most of the classes are taught by physicians who specialize in that medical area."

Genesys Conference and Banquet Center is located on the Genesys Regional Medical Center at Health Park campus in Grand Blanc Township (Holly Road exit 108 off I-75).
