Genesys Rehab Stroke Program

(810) 606-6500

When it comes to surviving a stroke, time is everything.
Genesys is making sure you don’t miss a single moment.

Genesys is making sure more stroke patients have more time to spend with their loved ones and to do the things they love to do because:
  • Genesys has the region’s first Advanced Primary Stroke Center.
  • We have the region's only NeuStrategy designated Stroke Center of Excellence.
  • Our stroke survival rates are the best in the region and among the best in the nation.
  • We've participated in the Michigan branch of the National Stroke Registry (MOSAIC).
  • We offer a seamless continuum of stroke care, including physical therapy, home care and a dedicated stroke support group.

Genesys is the first hospital in the area to receive advanced certification from the Joint Commission for its stroke services.
This achievement means Genesys has been recognized for its exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes for its stroke patients. To obtain this advanced certification as a Disease-Specific Care-Advanced Primary Care Stroke Center, Genesys must meet Joint Commission rigorous national standards and safety goals that demonstrate safe, high-quality care, treatment and services for stroke patients, with continued efforts to improve processes.

Signs of a Stroke
The single most important factor in treating an acute stroke is time. Stroke is an emergency. Stroke victims need urgent medical care. Call 9-1-1 if you think you or someone else is experiencing a stroke. Symptoms of stroke can include:
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes including blurry vision or "graying"
  • Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body
  • Sudden confusion or trouble speaking or understanding
  • Facial droop/weakness
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
  • Sudden severe headache with no known cause

If there is any doubt whether you or someone around you is experiencing a stroke, seek immediate medical attention.

Community Stroke Support Group
This free community stroke support group provides an opportunity for stroke survivors and their families to exchange ideas, support and encourage each other, and to learn more about their medical condition. Each meeting will include an educational component as well as information on resources available in the local community for stroke survivors. This Genesys-sponsored support group will meet the first Thursday of each month.

The Genesys Inpatient Rehabilitation Center staff sponsors the support group. Genesys physical and occupational therapists conduct the meetings and they will provide participants with exercises to perform at home. For more information or to sign up, call the Genesys Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at (810) 606-7479.
