What is Neurosurgery?
When most people hear the word "neurosurgery" they automatically think of brain surgery. However, neurosurgery encompasses far more than the brain. Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of the entire nervous system, composed of the brain, spinal cord and spinal column, as well as the nerves that travel through all parts of the body (hands, legs, arms, face). Neurosurgeons provide the operative and non-operative management of neurological disorders. Because neurosurgeons have extensive training in the diagnosis of all neurological diseases, they are often called upon by emergency room doctors, neurologists, internists, and family practitioners for consultations.

Your brain is one of the human body's most fascinating and complex organs. The brain controls almost all bodily functions and gives us our own unique personality. Attached to the brain and helping to send electrical impulses throughout the body is the spine; an interconnected string of bones and cartilage that houses the delicate spinal cord. Together, the brain and spine is arguably the most complex set of structures in the human body.
At Genesys, no one in the region can boast the skill and expertise in this complex area of the human body. And we've created a team of neuroscience specialists, each with advanced knowledge and skill to tackle even the most complex cases. Specially trained in many of the latest treatment techniques, these specialists are part of a multidisciplinary team of care givers at Genesys with one goal in mind: getting you back to your normal self.
