Genesys Diabetes and Nutrition Learning Center (DNLC) provides programs on how to live a healthy lifestyle and lower risk of health problems. These programs include the following: Diabetes Education Program, Diabetes Prevention Course, Adult Diabetes Support Group and Nutrition Management Program. Our multi-disciplinary team includes Registered Dietitians, a Registered Nurse and a Licensed Master Social Worker who are Certified Diabetes Educators and committed to helping you with your individual needs. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:30pm. Private and Group sessions are available.
Diabetes Education Program:
Diabetes is a lifelong condition and studies show that people who take charge of their diabetes can reduce their chances of health problems and premature death. Diabetes education increases motivation and knowledge, lowers HbA1c levels, lowers health costs and improves quality of life. Genesys Diabetes and Nutrition Learning Center is certified by the Michigan Department of Community Health and accredited by the American Diabetes Association ensuring high quality services. Any person with a diagnosis of diabetes is eligible for diabetes education with a faxed referral from their physician (fax number 810-606-7747). Education is offered in a group class format and/or private sessions. Most insurances cover services initially and annually. Insurance will be checked for any out of pocket expenses. Managing your diabetes is a lifelong commitment and we are here to help support you! Topics discussed are:

The DNLC offers a three session class for people with pre-diabetes. Topics include: understanding the effects of elevated blood sugar, learning how to reduce the risk of diabetes, nutrition, benefits of physical activity, identifying cues that impact food and activity decisions, and obstacles to maintaining a healthy lifestyle that will reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
The classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Jan. 24, Feb. 7 and Feb. 21, in the Genesys Diabetes and Nutrition Learning Center, located on the Genesys Regional Medical Center - Health Park campus in Grand Blanc (inside the Genesys Athletic Club complex). Adult Diabetes Support Group
DNLC offers a support group intended to provide education and emotional support to individuals dealing with type 2 diabetes. Friends, family members and/or caregivers of those diagnosed with this disease are also encouraged to attend. The session format includes group discussions, specific education topics, and/or guest speakers. All sessions are facilitated by a professional from the field of diabetes.
Meetings are held on the third Thursday of every other month from 1:30-3:30pm at the Diabetes and Nutrition Learning Center. For a list of upcoming dates or further information, please call 810-606-7720.
Nutrition Management Program
Many health problems relate to the kinds of food we eat. By improving your eating habits, you can reduce the risks of heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes and some cancers, as well as improve your overall health and well being.
Genesys Health System’s Nutrition Management Program is staffed by Registered Dietitians who work with you to design an effective, personal plan to improve your health. These plans are developed based on your individual medical history, lifestyle and eating habits. Sessions may focus on:
