Benefits

Medical/Dental/Optical Benefits - You will receive information regarding your medical/dental/optical benefits and other related benefits via email from your program coordinator. If you have specific questions regarding this information, please contact the HR Benefits office directly at (810) 606-7015. At orientation, a representative from the Human Resources Department will present the different options in greater detail and will be available to answer any questions.

If you are adding dependents (spouse and/or children) onto your health/vision/dental benefits, you must provide a copy of your 2009 1040 tax form. If you were married in 2010, you must provide a copy of your marriage certificate. If you had a baby in 2010, you must provide the birth certificate. If neither yourself or your spouse have ever paid taxes, you must provide a marriage certificate (if applicable) and birth certificates of your children and you will be required to sign an affidavit agreeing to supply a copy of your 2009 1040 tax form.

Additional Benefits and Discounts:
Food Stipend You will receive a $2400.00 food stipend which will be included in your paycheck and divided among 26 pay periods. To avoid having to carry cash, you may purchase food by scanning your ID badge and the amount will be automatically deducted from your paycheck. Or, you may choose to pre-pay.

Genesys Athletic Club - Membership benefits are available to all housestaff who join the Genesys Athletic Club. The monthly fee for housestaff is $79.00 (additional fees apply for family members). This amount will be deducted from your paycheck through payroll deduction (only). Medical Education will subsidize a portion of the membership fee by adding $16.15 to your paycheck per pay. If you are interested in joining, you must complete the attached form and return to Medical Education by April 9, 2010. In addition, you must go to the Athletic Club anytime after Thursday, July 1, to sign up. You will be asked to pay for your first month at this time.

Professional Development & Educational Allowance (PDEA)You will receive a Professional Development and Educational Allowance (PDEA). This allowance is to be used for payment of medical licensure, books, loops, subscriptions, professional dues (including but not limited to AOA, AAFP, AMA, ACOS), educational meetings and conferences. You will be paid a check in two separate payments during the months of July and January (apart from your salary), less the appropriate withholdings. The allowance is as follows:

House Staff Level I$2,500$1250.00 paid in July and January
House Staff Level II$3,000$1500.00 paid in July and January
House Staff Level III$3,500$1750.00 paid in July and January
House Staff Level IV & VII$3,500$1750.00 paid in July and January

We recommend that you meet with your respective Program Director for their list of training requirements relative to medical books and reading material, meetings, travel and medical conferences to determine how these monies should be spent.

Medical Center Employee Discounts –Genesys is happy to provide Genesys Health System employees with service and entertainment opportunities at discounted costs including Dell and Microsoft offers, Rock Financial and Quicken Loans deals, GM discounts, and discounts on cell phones and entertainment. After July 1st, you can log onto the Genesys HR website to view the specific discounts.

Family Community Credit Union –There are many advantages to joining, especially if you are interested in a loan, an automatic bill payment program or direct deposit. In addition, there is a branch located in the atrium of the hospital for convenient banking.
