Make a difference – be a Hospice Volunteer!
Genesys Hospice seeks volunteers for its Home Hospice program in Genesee and surrounding counties.
Training for new volunteers will be every Monday and Thursday from 6-9pm for two weeks beginning March 3, 2014, ending on March 13, 2014, 2013. Classes will be held at:
Genesys Administrative Services Bldg, (GASB) 5445 Ali Dr, Grand Blanc, MI 48439
(Pre-registration is required and all sessions must be attended to begin volunteering).
Hospice is considered to be a model for quality, compassionate care at the end of life. Through hospice, a team of professionals provide care to terminally ill patients and their caregivers – and volunteers are at the heart of the Genesys Hospice team! Volunteers provide vigil care, companionship and assistance in patient’s homes and area nursing homes, providing an extra layer of support to those patients and their families.
Volunteers are needed to visit patients’ homes to provide companionship, respite for caregivers, transportation to and from appointments, write letters, read to patients, and provide light housework and/or handyman services.
The 12-hour training focuses on the hospice philosophy, developing listening skills, gaining awareness of feelings regarding death and dying, patient care, spiritual care and bereavement.
If you are interested in becoming part of the Genesys Hospice team or for more information, please contact the Volunteer Department at (810) 695-7796.
*Pre-registration is required by February 28, 2014.
