Grief Recovery Programs
ADULT GRIEF RECOVERY PROGRAM
Bereavement refers to the period of time following the death of a significant person in your life ... a spouse ... a child ... another relative ... or a friend. Grief is a healing process that slowly moves toward resolution and closure. Each person’s grief is felt and experienced in individual ways. When death occurs, you may receive support from family and friends. Sometimes, however, you may find that this support is not enough.

The grief you may be experiencing is a normal and healthy expression of feelings.

Genesys Hospice Grief Support Services provide an opportunity to express those feelings and receive emotional support. These services are available for hospice families as well as anyone in the community who has suffered the loss of a loved one. Our highly trained social workers assist participants with family issues, feelings of loneliness, and stress management while they move through the tasks of grief work, and learn to understand common behaviors that are a consequence of loss.

CHILDRENS GRIEF RECOVERY PROGRAM
Death is one of the most traumatic experiences a child can face. During the resulting time of bereavement, it is critical that the child receives love and support in dealing with the complex emotions he or she is experiencing. Genesys Hospice is committed to alleviating the suffering that children in our community experience when faced with the loss of a loved one.
  • Genesys Night Light Program is a free, 6-week program available to any elementary school in Genesee County who has children struggling with loss.
  • Genesys Camp BraveHeart© annual Grief Recovery Camp designed to meet the needs of children (ages 5-17) and adults who have experienced the death of a loved one.
  • Grief support is also provided as part of our Children Hospice and Pinwheels Palliative Care Programs.
The Genesys Night Light Program
The Genesys Night Light Program is a six-week group that meets during the school day in one-hour sessions. All groups are divided by age to work on activities geared toward grief expression, and to learn healing methods for coping with grief.

Developed by trained bereavement professionals, this structured program works in conjunction with a school’s Counseling Department to assist the child in understanding their experiences with grief, and to help normalize their grief response.

Genesys Camp BraveHeart©
    Healing Hearts
Specially designed to meet the unique needs of grieving children (ages 5-17) and their families, this one-of-a-kind camp allows participants to explore feelings and find inner strength.

    Strengthening Memories
Our trained staff of counselors, therapists, and volunteers help children connect with others their own age who know what it is like to lose a loved one. By honoring memories and investing in new experiences, children and adults gain coping tools for the future.

    Finding Laughter
Children’s groups involve the use of creative arts – music, art therapy, creative writing and drama – as a natural outlet of expression and understanding of feelings. Camp BraveHeart© also offers adults/caregivers an opportunity to address their own grief issues, reinforce coping skills, and receive education on their own grief process as well as how children grieve.
