Internal Medicine Residency

The IM residency at Genesys provides diverse opportunities for training in this specialty. This residency generally accepts 8 to 10 track interns per year. To apply for a PGYI position, you must complete the ERAS application. To apply for PGYII or above, you must complete the Genesys online application.
  • Ample opportunity for supervised patient care and development of procedural skills in both inpatient and ambulatory settings.
  • IM subspecialty rotations are available through Genesys’ physician staff and associated programs.
PGY I – Choice of Internship
  • IM Track Internship
    • Counts toward first year of residency.
    • Provides additional months of general IM training, cardiology, subspecialty elective and ambulatory clinic responsibilities.
  • Traditional Rotating Internship
    • Advanced placement into IM residency to be determined by the ACOI
PGY II and III – Choice of Residency Track
  • Primary Care Internal Medicine Track
    • Special emphasis on ambulatory medicine.
    • Opportunities to train in Adolescent Medicine, Substance Abuse, Women’s Health and Geriatrics in addition to hospital-based general medicine, medicine subspecialties and critical care.
    • One full day in the ambulatory clinic each week.
  • Traditional Internal Medicine Track
    • Broad exposure to general medicine, critical care and subspecialty medicine training.
    • Recommended for those considering future fellowship training in an IM subspecialty, however, graduates frequently pursue a career practicing General IM.
    • Weekly ambulatory clinic patient care duties.
  • Hospitalist Track
    • Broad exposure to general medicine, critical care and subspecialty medicine training.
    • Weekly ambulatory clinic patient care duties.
    • Additional exposure to Utilization Review of admitted patient and infection control
Third year residents are given more responsibility in the areas of patient care and teaching, including lectures and case presentations.

The IM residency program is approved for 30 trainees and currently runs at full complement.

The Ambulatory Clinic also provides informal didactic sessions in current medical topics and case presentations. Journal Club, Congdon Lecture Series, as well as lectures and workshops through SCS occur on a monthly basis.

On-Call
  • Total monthly calls 4-6, in-house
