Critical Care Nursing Series

Basic Dysrhythmia Interpretation
This offering is designed to provide staff with the basic knowledge and techniques to analyze, interpret, and anticipate the treatment of cardiac dysrhythmia. Sheila Richter, R.N., B.S.N. teaches this 45 nursing contact hour course.

All nurses working in critical care/telemetry must complete this course.

Critical Care Core
Critical Care orientation is provided by the AACN Essentials of Critical Care Orientation private learning center. ECCO provides the learner and our organization a first of its kind learning portal designed to help orient novice nurses to the field of critical care nursing. The program provides over 64 contact hours of continuing education credit of custom developed content broken down into each of the body's systems:
Cardiovascular
Pulmonary
Neurological
Renal
Gastrointestinal
Endocrine
Hematology
Multisystem
In addition to the custom created content, this learning center offers management features to help the Educators track the user's progress through each module while the integrated assessment piece will automatically grade and report test scores.

12-Lead EKG Interpretation
This one-day workshop provides advanced techniques for EKG interpretation. Offered to staff who have completed the Basic Dysrhythmia Course, topics include identifying MI with correlation of physical findings, enzyme changes, and serial EKG's; determination of area of infarct from review of the EKG recognition of cardiac axis and axis deviation, as well as identification of Bundle Branch Blocks. This workshop is taught by expert physician and nursing staff and offers 6 contact hours.
Look for the class on GLI for registration under the Catalog and select Nursing Education, Scroll down until you find the seminar/class you wish to attend, click on the title, click request approval. You will get direct approval by your manager and she/he will schedule you for the class.

PCCN/CCRN
2 day courses are being offered at Genesys to help prepare tele nurses and critical care nurses for certification. Look for the class on the GLI for registration under the Catalog section and select Nursing Education, Scroll down until you find the seminar/class you wish to attend, click on the title, click request approval. You will get direct approval by your manager and she/he will schedule you for the class. You will need 18 months of tele or critical care experience in order to sit for the PCCN or CCRN certification.

IAPB Principles and Practices
Sheila Richter, R.N., B.S.N. teaches and coordinates this eight hour class is designed for the critical care RN who is new to intra-aortic balloon pumping. Course content includes a review of coronary anatomy and physiology and the pathophysiology of left ventricular failure. Beneficial effects of intra-aortic balloon therapy, timing, documentation, and operation of the Datascope System 90 are included as well. Offers 7.8 contact hours. Target audience is critical care RN's with no prior balloon pump experience.

Sheila Richter, R.N., B.S.N. also offers a 4 hour refresher class designed for trouble shooting patient care with the datascope system. Offers a 4 contact hour course.

Arterial/Venous Sheath Removal Program
Sheila Richter, R.N., B.S.N. teaches this 7.2 contact hour course. Anatomy & physiology, types of cannulations, and types of removal such as manual compression, mechanical compression devices, collagen plug devices, and percutaneous suture closure devices. Steps for the procedure of arterial & venous sheath removal will be covered with their rationale. Complications associated with sheath removal with nursing interventions. Competencies and sheath pulling documentation records requirements covered.

Neuro Core Course
Sheila Richter, R.N., B.S.N. teaches this 46 contact hour course designed to meet the needs of ONR ICU/Acute Care and also, OR, PACU, Emergency Department, and Pediatric staff taking care of neuro patients. Intensive anatomy and physiology will be reviewed as well as medications, signs and symptoms of increased cranial pressure, diagnostic tests, nursing care of the neuro patient, and treatment modalities for cranial and spinal surgery related to tumors, aneurysm, and other neurological conditions. Equipment with return demonstrations will also be facilitated.
