EMS Educators

Dr. Austin Burgess received his Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1990. He then attended Wayne State University and received his Medical degree in 1994. He then accepted a commission in the US Army and completed a Transitional internship at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in 1995. From there he spent two years as the Aviation Brigade flight surgeon for the Third Infantry Division at Hunter Army Airfield, GA. There he was responsible for all aspects of medical care for the Brigade. This included care of aviation personnel but also medical logistics, coordination of medical evacuation with military assets and with civilian EMS, and training of medics. From there he went back into training completing an Emergency Medicine Residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in 2000. From there he served at Ft. Riley, KS from 2000-2003 as EMS director of a hospital based EMS system. He then additionally served as Medical Director from 2002-2003. After completing his Army obligation he went to Moorehead City, NC at Carteret General Hospital. There he served as Quality Director as well as three years as Medical Director. In August of 2013 Dr. Burgess moved back to Michigan to start at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Burgess is a 2007 graduate of EMP’s Scholars program. He has been married to his wife Carol since 1990. He has two children Jacob and Kayle.


Dominic Foster is the manager of EMS Education. He has been involved in EMS since 1993 in many different capacities, most recently as the Medical Director for Blair Township EMS. Dominic is one of the founding members of STAT EMS, LLC. He has also worked as the Operations Manager of Swartz Ambulance Service, Inc., and as the Director of Operations of Byron Area Ambulance Service. Dominic has been an EMS Instructor Coordinator since 1996. He has been instructing ACLS at Genesys since 1997 and has also been involved in teaching part of the Trauma Nurse Core Curricullum (TNCC). In addition to his other teaching activities, Dominic is also a BLS instructor. He has educated more than 1400 providers and lay persons in BLS over the years. He is currently a member of the Genesee County Medical Control Authority (GCMCA) - Professional Standards Review Organization Committee and sits on the GCMCA Board and EMS Education Commitee.

Ron Green is the Programs Course Coordinator for Genesys Regional Medical Center, EMS Education. He started at Genesys in December 2004 and currently teaches Paramedic Programs. Ron is also an American Heart Association Training Center Faculty Member for BLS, ACLS, and PALS at Genesys. Ron started his EMS career as a Genesys EMT student in 1996 and then worked for a short time at CM Ambulance. In 1997, he left CM Ambulance and went to work at Swartz Ambulance Service that same year. While at Swartz he attended the Genesys Paramedic Program in 1999 and then became one of thier Field Training Officers. In 2003, Ron attended the Instructor Coordinator course and now teaching at Genesys is his full time job, but he still holds many friendships within the EMS community.

Joe Miron's EMS life started in 1997 while working for General Motors. In February 1998 Joe became a Medical First Responder. In February 1999 he became a licensed Emergency Medical Technician – Basic. Joe went to work for Swartz Ambulance in September 2000. While working at Swartz he became an Instructor/Coordinator and in August 2005, Joe started working for Genesys EMS Education, teaching the EMT-Basic class. In March 2006 he became a licensed Paramedic. His certifications (MFR, EMT, and Paramedic) where received from Genesys EMS Education, where Dominic Foster was his instructor for all of them. Joe is married and resides in Davison.

Les Remington began his career in public service in 1987, when he joined the United States Army. He served as a police officer from 1995 until 2000. His fire service career began in 2001 as a firefighter for Mt Morris City Fire Dept. In 2002 he attended the EMT program at McLaren. In 2004 he attended the Paramedic program at Genesys with Dominic Foster as his educator. In 2004 he also moved to the Mt Morris Township Fire Department where he is currently a Sergeant. Les was employed at Genesys Emergency Transport Service for the life of the department. Serving current and future EMS providers is mission first for him. Les is married with four daughters.
