Emergency Medicine Residency

The Genesys Emergency Medicien Residency Program is a dually accredited program recognized by both the AOA and ACGME

Genesys is a founding member and training site in the Statewide Campus System (SCS) of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Our affiliated residencies include Emergency Medicine, ENT, Family Practice, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, OB/Gyn and Orthopedic Surgery. SCS is a partnership of 20 major teaching hospitals and Michigan State University that offers all the benefits and advantages of a nationally recognized university combined with the opportunity for hands-on clinical training, SCS enhances the diversity of the clinical experience and strengthens the organization and planning for residency programs.

The program accepts seven Residents per year. You must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). If you are interested in a PGY II or above position, you must complete the Genesys Online Application.


Emergency Medicine Applicant Criteria
  1. USMLE or Comlex 1 & 2 must be passed on first attempt.
    1. Scores will be considered along with all other application requirements.
  2. Required Documents:
    1. 2 letters of recommendation
    2. Transcripts
    3. Deans letter
    4. Valid ECFMG certificate for IMGs
  3. Application deadline is November 2, 2009.
  4. We do not accept H-1B, J-1, F-1 visas nor do we accept employment authorizations. We may consider applicants with conditional permanent resident status.
  5. Medical School Graduation must be within 2 years of applying to the Residency program

Our program provides:
  • A challenging four year program which provides excellent and varied pathology at a high volume pace of approximately 65,000 patient visits per year.
  • In-house exposure to trauma, pediatrics, cardiology, and pulmonary cases as well as a wide range of clinical disease entities.
  • Trauma Team participation and leadership
  • Multiple elective rotations for intensive training in critical areas and selected areas of personal interest.
  • Daily morning reports and noon lectures.
  • Intensive weekly EM dedicated Educational lectures.
  • Morbidity-Mortality conferences
  • Participation in monthly MSU-Statewide Campus System EM Consortium Educational offerings.
  • Quarterly Toxicology Grand Rounds presented by area poison center
  • Specialized small group hands-on lab sessions coordinated with the MSU Statewide Campus System Emergency Medicine Programs.

      • OMT Lab
      • Advanced Slit Test Lab
      • HAZMAT Labs
      • Advanced Airway Course
The young, energetic ED physician staff is geared to maximize the resident’s training with extensive clinical teaching time and weekly educational lectures.
