The 16th annual Charity Classic is a Genesys Health Foundation special event that raises money for the local community. For the next five years, funds raised through the Charity Classic will benefit Health Access, a program that helps uninsured and underinsured Genesee County residents find ways to meet their health care needs. Health Access can help locate a doctor, identify programs that can help pay medical bills, and connect clients with resources to improve their health.

We invite you to partner with us to help the uninsured and underinsured by participating in the Genesys Charity Classic. With your support, Genesys will be able to provide a solution to the increasingly complex problem of unaffordable health care and how to navigate the health care system. People who have special health care needs such as pregnant women, people with long-term illnesses, and victims of crimes may be eligible for special programs through Health Access. By donating to the Genesys Charity Classic, you are helping those who can not afford quality health care and investing in the health of our community.

This year’s Genesys Charity Classic party will be held on Saturday, July 12, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Genesys Athletic Club. Cost is $250 a couple, which includes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a strolling dinner fare featuring specialties from more than 13 local restaurants, dancing, and a chance to bid on sports memorabilia and resort packages through a silent auction.

The annual event also features a golf tournament on Monday, July 14, at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc. Cost of $750 a person includes 18 holes of golf at the site of the Buick Open, two tickets to the Charity Classic party and a gift package. Since its inception in 1993, the Genesys Charity Classic has raised more than $1.8 million that goes back to the community. For the last five years, proceeds have been used for the Charity Classic Scholarship program, designed to assist area residents entering health care undergraduate and graduate programs such as nursing, medical technology, pharmacy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, and surgical technology. To date, the Charity Classic Scholarship program has awarded 92 scholarships valued at $157,443.94. We have assisted 27 students to complete their degrees and have filled 21 positions within Genesys. The graduates have accepted employment in a variety of fields including nursing, physical therapy, and surgical technology.

Prior to the scholarship program, Genesys Health Foundation earmarked funds to start a parish nurse program, a community outreach service that enables Genesys to provide nurses in local congregations with the tools, resources and education necessary to promote good health among parishioners. In addition, funds are used to support Healthy Students 2000, an immunization program for children.
