Emergency Services

Emergency Services at Genesys Regional Medical Center provide expert professional care for all emergency medical needs. Genesys Regional Medical Center's full-time Emergency Department physicians are trained in Emergency Medicine, and have completed certification training in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

The emergency-trained nursing staff includes registered nurses and licensed practical nurses. This highly-skilled staff is trained in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Emergency and Trauma Nursing. Genesys Regional Medical Center is a teaching and training site for EMTs and Paramedics. The Emergency Department at Genesys Health Park is verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma, which means Genesys provides an extremely high standard of trauma care.

The usual progression for each patient upon arrival at our Emergency Services is medical screening/triage examination, registration, treatment and either discharge or admission for further care.

Triage/Medical Screening
Your treatment begins with Triage. You will discuss your emergency medical problems with the Triage Nurse. This first examination may include a screening of your blood pressure, pulse, and temperature. Please ask the Triage Nurse before eating any food or drinking any beverage.

The seriously ill and injured will be treated first, and others in the order of registration.

Registration
You will be asked to explain your medical problems and to sign authorization for treatment and insurance coverage.

If your insurance requires pre-authorization for treatment or ongoing care, we will keep you advised of progress in this sometimes lengthy process.

Hearing Impaired Services are available. These services should be requested at registration.

Examination
You will be examined by the Emergency Services physician who will determine the
necessary treatment procedures to be followed. This treatment may include x-rays, blood tests and appropriate medication as ordered by the Emergency physician. This physician also can and will make arrangements for any specialized care you may require. An Emergency nurse or doctor will keep you advised.

Hospital Admission Patient Discharge
The Emergency Services physician may approve your discharge from emergency care or will advise you of the need for further care or admission to the hospital for treatment. If you are to be discharged from further emergency care, you will receive instructions for any follow-up care which may be needed.

Be sure you understand these instructions. This is the time to ask any questions you may have. It is also important that you follow up with your family physician as directed.Should your condition require admission, your family physician will be notified. If you do not have a family physician who is a member of the Genesys Regional Medical Center medical staff, one will be assigned to manage your care. You will be taken to your inpatient room as soon as it is ready.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding your emergency care, treatment or your admission and further care.

It is important that you understand your diagnosis and suggested home care follow-up. Questions about your care and/or treatment while you are a patient at one of the Genesys Regional Medical Center - Emergency Services should be directed to the Emergency physicians or nurses taking care of you. If you or your family have questions which arise following your discharge please call the Emergency Services at (810) 606-5933..

Family or Others Who Accompany Patient
We ask that no more than two (2) persons accompany the patient into the treatment area. Identification which permits visitor entry into the patient treatment area is provided. There may be times when treatment procedures require that visitors (family) return to the Emergency Lobby. They will be advised as soon as it is possible to rejoin the patient
in the treatment area.
