This is the award-winning letter sent to Jill Day:
I would like to nominate my coworker Jill Day for the Daisy award based on the excellent care I recently witnessed her provide to a terminal patient and his immediate family and friends. Jill was responsible for caring for a very young individual who was struck with a not only tragic but totally unpredicted turn of events that left him brain dead. The family who was multicultural needed much support in their efforts to understand what had happened to their loved one and what the immediate future was to bring. Jill along with several wonderful doctors including Dr.Khorfan and Dr.Bhangu spent many hours devoted to this patient and his family. While it was certain that their was no hope of recovery for this patient Jill continued to provide care that would ensure comfort and dignity, no matter how dismal the certain outcome was. Jill displays what we all hope to achieve at some point in our careers - a nurse who is able to look past tragedy, family strife, and most importantly her own feelings of grief and provide care that is unbiased, comforting and most important always attentive and appropriate, whether the patient will live or pass away. Good job Jill - you really do make a difference.
