This is the award-winning letter sent to Barbara Hager:
Not a week goes by that I am not stopped by a patient or family member to tell me how much they appreciate her compassion. Barb works 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and during those late night hours, the patients in Rehab are left with a lot of time to think about what they have lost and worry about what will happen when they leave the hospital. Barb is a nurse who isn't afraid to talk to people about their fears and is known to take time to sit and cry with patients.

So much of rehabilitation nursing is about coping with loss and change and having a nurse who understand and supports that process is invaluable. I wish I could choose one story to illustrate her compassion, but there too many to choose from.
