This is the award-winning letter sent to Elaine & 2 North Staff:
Going through what we have been through the past eight months has been tough. My husband is battling leukemia. We LIVE in hospitals and clinics on a daily basis. We travel daily from the cancer clinic to West Flint Campus and to Genesys. Since September 10, 2004, my husband has stayed in Genesys for a total of 8-weeks and one day. That does not count all the numerous chemo treatments which took many hours. He also stay two more nights for chemo for a total of 8-weeks and 3-days over night. The 2 North staff with Elaine has made this nightmare so much better. They treat us like family and go out of their way to help us. The care and attention they have gave us has made our lives so much easier. In 2003 and prior years we always dealt with McLaren. In 3003, my husband stayed at McLaren for a total of 17-days. After staying at Genesys and having the great nursing staff on 2 North, we will never to back to McLaren. Times have been so hard on my husband and me, and Elaine and all the staff on 2 North lightened the load so much. I've over protective of my husband, and the staff went out of their way to answer all my questions and concerns. We really got attached to Elaine, Crissy, Chris Stiff, Aime, Amy, Eleanor, Andrea, Becky, Emily, Jean--the list goes on for miles.
2 North is a wonderful floor, with a great team of nurses and staff who are truly dedicated to their jobs and patients. We would like to see Elaine and staff recognized for their excellence and dedication. We want them to know how much we appreciate everything they have done for us these past 8-months.
If all floors and hospitals had staffing like 2 North, the world would be a better place. God truly blessed us with this staff of nurses, we couldn't find better. Elaine has worked with me the past 8-months on making chemo treatments shorter and easier. She really felt our pain on the long hours and fought hard to shorten the time frame so we could be at home as much as possible. She also talked with me many times and consoled me on what I was going through and what she had been through with her husband. This last chemo treatment was very serious and she pulled out all the stoppers to make sure my husband was safeguarded in all areas. What a superior person she is. We love her so much for always going above and beyond for us. Genesys needs to know how lucky they are to have Elaine and the staff on 2 North who are extra special nurses and at their jobs.
