Linda Gunter, Beth Hachtel, Karen Shaheen
On Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 8:40 a.m. - 6-week old Allyssa West's father presented her at the front door of EFC Emergency. He was met by Alander from Sercurity and told the ER doesn't open until 9 a.m. The father told security his baby wasn't breathing. Alander immediately brought Allyssa and her father into ER and called 911.
Dr. Borschke, Linda Gunter, RN, Beth Hachtel, RN, Karen Shaheen, EDT, Melissa Scharolt Radilogy, and Pauline Brown, AA, had just arrived to work.
Allyssa was syanotic, flaccid, cool to touch, and she wasn't breathing. She did have a pulse. Karen started rescue breathing while everyone gathered emergency equipment. Pauline AA, gave the father emotional support.
Within 4-minutes of her arrival, Allyssa had a pulse ox of 100% with BCM respirations. The paramedics responded rapidly to Security's 911 call. Allyssa was transferred to Hurley Emergency. Upon transfer, Allyssa was breathing on her own, arms and legs were moving, and she was crying! What a great sound! Great teamwork by all!!
Allyssa was admitted to Pediatric ICU at Hurley with pneumonia. |
