I am writing with appreciative thanks to share our recent experience at your hospital. My 22 year old son, Matt, took a hard fall from his snowboard at Mt. Holly on January 2nd. An hour later, he started tohave pain in the abdomen and headed home. While driving on I-75, he felt as if he was going to pass out. He put on his blinker to pull over and when he awoke, he was in the ditch. He called home and assured us he didn't need an ambulance, just a wrecker to get out of the snow filled ditch. We drove from our home in Montrose Township to his assistance and I took him straight to your Emergency Room to be checked out.

That proved to be a very good decision as his spleen had been injured and was "actively bleeding." After waiting a short time in the waiting room, he passed out again. The ER staff wasted not a second as they did ultrasound, x-ray, and a CAT scan. The surgeon was called and Matt was whisked to surgery to remove his spleen. It was a frightening time as a parent, to watch it all in action; but it was comforting to see that he was in very good hands.
Shortly after midnight, Matt was placed in Room 2040, where he stayed for 4 days. The nursing care he received was superb. He has quite an incision with 44 staples and is dealing with the post-op pain fairly well.

One could say this was an unlucky event. We look at it differently. We are so fortunate that we are not planning a funeral. The good Lord was watching over our son; when he got up from the snowboard spill, when he guided that truck to a snow-filled ditch rather than into another vehicle, when he put him in the hands of your ER staff, and when he allowed him to be cared for by such caring compassionate nurses.

Thank you for providing such great service and may God continue to shine on Genesys Hospital.
