This is the award-winning letter sent to Mike Marshall:
My husband,Bill has been a patient of Genesys many times, but mostly in the CCU, never in this unit. I am so pleased with the care he has gotten from Mike Marshall, I just had to comment on it. Bill is always very uncomfortable in the hospital (as everyone is) , but he was always glad to see Mike come into his room. Bill was on a ventalator and couldn't speak, but when I told him Mike was going to be his caregiver for the night, even as bad as he felt, he gave a "thumbs up".
Mike answered ALL of my questions and was very, very patient with me. He seemed concerned about my welfare also. He was always asking if he could do anything for me, or get me anything.
I would wake in the middle of the night at home and call the Unit to check on bill, and Mike always took the time to talk to me.
The last night he worked before his vacation, I didn't get a chance to tell him goodbye, but he came into Bill's room and explained what every line, tube, and number meant. Later I awoke about 4AM and called the Unit again to check on Bill. Mike answered the telephone. He wasn't in charge of Bill, but had been earlier, so he told me how things were going. On the 26th of Nov. Bill & I will be married for 50 years, and Mike said it must be terrible being away from each other like that, because he knew it. I started to cry, and he took the time to talk to me until I felt I could go back to sleep.
The day he started his vacation, my husband looked around the room as if he were looking for something. I asked what he was looking for, and he pointed to another male nurse in a blue set of scrubs like Mike had worn. I asked him if he was looking for Mike, and he shook his head yes.My husband is not the only one that is going to miss Mike...My Daughter & I are also. She is going thru Nurses Training now, and she said she hopes she can be as compassionate as Mike is!
As many times as I have been in Genesys or my husband has been, we have been treated so great, but I have NEVER met a nurse to treat BOTH of us like Mike Marshall did!
Thank You,
Sincerely,
Linda Lou Bailey
